SKSWood At ITB Career Day Dialog

22nd January 2009, Thursday – The Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) is one of the local colleges that has recently been recognized as a university. This prestigious recognition comes after the establishment has added new courses to its list. Being an educational establishment, the institution sees it as their responsibility in giving a helping hand in finding career opportunities for their graduates. Knowledge is enhanced through useful outlets for its application. Thus, ITB annually hosts the ITB Career Day Dialog on its campus grounds. A platform for ITB graduates and local job seekers to find jobs that are suitable for their qualifications.

The exhibition attracted eight government agencies and 30 private establishments including multinational companies such as SKSWood.

Yang Mulia Dr. Haji Omar Bin Haji Khalid Naib, Chancellor of ITB, gave the opening speech. He stressed on the thousands of local job seekers, which includes both with and without education certificates. Out of this pool of job seekers, only a small fraction have successfully managed to secure a job, be it in the government or private sectors.

The Chancellor officiated the event with the traditional Malay gong.

SKSWood opened an informational booth (organized by the Human Resources Department, SKSWood) at the event, catering to hundreds of such locals looking for jobs. Representing SKSWood at the function were Hj Mohd. Musa Bin Hj. Suhaili (Business Development & External Affairs Manager), Marjory Toidy (Human Resources Manager), Maeve Chong (Recruitment Officer), Junaidah Hj. Daud (Immigration Officer), Jennifer Nyanggau (HR Officer), David Chong (Assist IT Engineer), Dennis Foo (Engineer), Lee Hung Liang (Engineer), Hasrin B. (Planning Analyst Assist), Allen Lim (Draughtsman), Aisamuddin Abdullah (Design Technical Clerk), Jamaluddin Alkaaf (Engineer) and Lim Ee Tyng (External Affairs Assist).

The closing ceremony was graced by Dr. Hajah Naemah binti Haji Basir, Deputy Director of ITB with the presentation of Certificate of Appreciation to all the parties involved in the day’s big event. Haji Mohd. Musa Bin Hj. Suhaili represented SKSWood in receiving the certificate.

SKSWood has on numerous occasions opened its doors to keen ITB students in the past, showing them the ropes of the business - marine construction yard activities and the structure of the operations team, which involves the engineering, electrical & instrumentation, plant and equipment, design, marine, HSE, logistics. In June 2007, SKSWood held a career open forum on ITB grounds, welcoming and urging their graduates to consider a career path in the local oil and gas industry, highlighting that the company takes on 6 local potential graduates on an annual average on the student attachment program.
