This is the first graduate trainee attachment program between BSP & SKSWood, where 6 BSP technical graduates will join SKSWood’s engineering, design and construction departments. The objective is to give these young engineers first hand knowledge and experience of these functions and an understanding of their importance to the integrity of BSP’s offshore assets. These are in addition to the local graduate attachments (who are not BSP staff) that SKSWood independently takes in annually. The BSP graduates feel excited and honored to be the first to take part in this special program between BSP & SKSWood and are looking forward to their work attachment.
This pilot program is scheduled to begin in April 2009, and expected to run for 18 months. The program was agreed during the negotiations for the extension of SKSWood’s contract that was just recently (3rd December 2008), signed by Tonya Williams, representing BSP’s Services Campaign Operations and Don Ballantyne, Managing Director of SKSWood.
The graduates, all from the local Institut Teknologi Brunei (which has recently been recognized as a University), are Nuramalina Haji Abdul Majid (Graduate of Civil Engineering); Adi Marzuki Bin Abdul Majid (Graduate of Civil Engineering); Ak. Md. Fathi Bin Pengiran Haji Mohamad (Graduate of Communications and Computer Systems Engineering); Haji Md. Wafi Bin Haji Abdul Rahman (Graduate of Mechanical Engineering); Md. Azhar Sulhi Bin Haji Mat Zahri (Graduate of Mechanical Engineering); and Hajimat Bin Haji Jamil (Graduate of Civil Engineering).
The graduates will be assigned to the Project Office, where the bulk of SKSWood’s onshore work is carried out; design, engineering, planning, procurement, commercial, logistics, plant & equipment, HSE, and Quality Control / Quality Assurance. It is also adjacent to the Marine Construction Yard (MCY, which belongs to Brunei Shell Petroleum) and the offices of Services Campaign Operations (SCO). The MCY is where SKSWood’s fabrication and assembly work is done as well as the materials handling, storage and load-out to the supply boats which moor at the riverside wharf. The attachments are expected to be given adequate freedom to feel their way around the operations and the MCY, to obtain the necessary professional exposure and guidance.
The graduates will also have the opportunity to join in SKSWood’s extracurricular activities such as healthy lifestyle programs, sports and social events and field trips, in the same way as when WGE cross-posters join SKSWood.
This program supports the Bruneianisation scheme, which is to encourage and promote the interest of the local graduates (who hold the country’s future) in developing a strong career in the country’s oil and gas industry. Oil and gas are, after all, Brunei’s major revenue earners.
