14th February 2009, Saturday - SKSWood regularly holds internal Healthy Lifestyle Programs, which are hosted by various departments on a rotary basis. Making Healthy Lifestyle Programs part of personnel responsibility is to drive home the message that taking care of ourselves is crucial to getting our jobs done. As the motto of the oil and gas industry goes, Health, Safety and Environment is priority.
For the first quarter of 2009, SKSWood’s HLP is hosted by the HSE department. The concept of Sportsfest was agreed by the team members in late January. Alex Sarte, Jenny Chong, Alex Avelino, Zulazmi, Hjh Aryathie Hassan, Gabriel Chong, Peter Maring, Dianne Chang, Prabakar Kumar, Langub Meripa, Hj. Rasyid, Jennifer Chin, Ben. N., Maslina Suhaili, Alejandro Perez, Yap Tsuey Lin, Sakinah, Maeve Chong and others who supported in the initial planning, forming the committee. In support of the team captains and the concept of Sportsfest, responsibilities such as organising the venue, organising the games, the schedules and refreshments were shared among the committee members.
The HLP is structured in an Olympic style with numerous events going on in parallel of each other, with personnel divided up into 4 teams: Blue, Green, Red and Yellow. The various team leaders are Marjory Toidy for Blue (Gabriel Chong / Jennifer Nyanggau assist), Calvin Tan for Green (Maslina Suhaili / Alex Avelino assist), Hernando Caceres for Red (Langub Meripa / Yap Tsuey Lin assist) and Ben Trinidad for Yellow (Alex Sarte / Jennifer Chin assist). The competitive events are aerobics, futsal, badminton, table tennis, basketball, netball, volleyball, squash, darts, sepak takraw and pool. Non-competitive activities included in the program are swimming, jungle trekking and yoga.
With events ongoing from mid of February ongoing, practices leading up to the finals keep the athletes busy, team spirits high and the healthy, sportsmanship competitive edge on.
