With the start of 2010, new challenges on the Bruneianization front are being met. SKSWood is looking to develop their local personnel into a highly skilled workforce capable of taking over tasks typically sourced abroad. This program shares the same aspirations as those of the nation’s 2035 vision for the advancing local work capabilities.
Current corporate breakdown of the workforce ratios indicate a content of 51% local and 49% expats. The aim is to achieve a 90-10 ratio, which Human Resources views as an ideal ratio for sustainability.
Nabilah Yahya (Human Resources Officer, Bruneianisation) mentioned efforts made last year to establish networks with local educational institutes for developing training packs specific to their skill and industry. This illustrates the company’s serious intent of pushing for development among the Brunei personnel.
One of the program’s features enables a posting among internal departments helping individuals understand the various roles and accountability of each department and how they attribute to the company’s overall growth. It provides the individuals an insight to the workings of the company making them more knowledgeable and indispensable.
Responsible for the program’s fruition are Marjory Toidy (Human Resources Manager), with Nabillah Yahya at the helm of this positively ambitious effort. Gary Tassell (General Manager), Prabakar Kumar (HSE Manager), Haji Mohd. Musa Bin Haji Suhaili (Business Development & External Affairs Manager) and Hernando Caceres (Commercial / Delivery Assurance Manager) provided support as the panel of judges to assess candidates for the pilot run.
